With Visualfy, your Philips Hue bulbs flash when an alert arrives. So you see it from anywhere at home, even if your phone is not with you.
You can use them in Reminders, the Alarm Clock, Third-Party Apps (Android only) and Visualfy Home alerts.
Before you start #
- You need Philips Hue bulbs and a Hue Bridge.
- Install the Philips Hue app and use it to set up the Hue Bridge and the bulbs.
- Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as the Hue Bridge.
NOTE: with color bulbs, you see the alert in color. With white bulbs, you see the alert with white light.
Linking the Hue Bridge #
- Open Reminders or the Alarm Clock. On Android, you can also open Third-Party Apps.
- Tap the round light bulb button at the bottom right.
- Visualfy searches for the Hue Bridge on your Wi-Fi network. When it finds it, it shows “1 Hue Bridge found!”.
- Tap “Link”.
- Press the top button of the Hue Bridge. You have 20 seconds: a bar shows you the time.
- Visualfy shows “Your Hue Bridge is linked”. On iPhone, tap “Accept”.
You can also start from the settings of an alert. If you tap “Philips Hue Lights” and you don’t have a Hue Bridge linked yet, tap “Go now”.
NOTE: if you don’t press the Hue Bridge button in time, Visualfy searches for it again. Tap “Link” again and then press the Hue Bridge button. Visualfy uses only one Hue Bridge.
Choosing the bulbs for an alert #
- Open the settings of the reminder, the alarm or the third-party app.
- In “Notification on other devices”, tap “Philips Hue Lights”.
- Choose the bulbs in the “Alert visible in” list, or turn on “Turn all the lights on”.
- Save the alert.
Also, depending on your phone:
- Android: the bulbs flash with the alert color. With “Keep color” on, they keep that color at the end. Without it, they go back to how they were before. “Keep color” is not available in the Alarm Clock.
- iPhone: the bulbs flash without changing color. If you tap a bulb in the list, it turns on and off so you know which one it is. If a bulb does not respond, it shows “unreachable”.
Unlinking the Hue Bridge #
- Tap the round light bulb button in Reminders or in the Alarm Clock.
- Tap the trash icon at the top right.
- On Android, confirm with “Yes”. On iPhone, it is unlinked without asking.
Bulbs in Visualfy Home alerts #
Visualfy Home sound alerts use the bulbs through the Visualfy Home device, not through your phone. That is why the Hue Bridge is linked separately:
- Open your Visualfy Home screen and tap the light bulb button.
- Follow the same steps: “Link” and the top button of the Hue Bridge. On iPhone you have up to one minute to press it.
- In each sound alert, tap “Philips Hue Lights” and choose the bulbs. “Keep color” is also available here.
NOTE: on iPhone, only the Visualfy Home administrator can link the Hue Bridge.
Frequently asked questions #
Visualfy can’t find the Hue Bridge #
- Check that the Hue Bridge is plugged in and connected to the router.
- Check that it works in the Philips Hue app.
- Check that your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as the Hue Bridge.
- Tap “Search” to try again.
To check that your phone and the Hue Bridge are on the same network, you can use the Fing app:
- Download the Fing app from Google Play or the App Store.
- Connect to your Wi-Fi network and open Fing.
- Scan your network for devices and wait until it finishes.
- Check that the Hue Bridge and your phone appear in the list.
If the Hue Bridge does not appear in the list, your router may be blocking it. Contact your internet provider.
On iPhone, if you see “Hue Bridge does not accept more requests”, wait a few minutes and try again. If the problem continues, contact support.
No bulbs appear #
Check in the Philips Hue app that the bulbs are added to the Hue Bridge and turned on. Then tap “Retry”.
The bulbs don’t go back to their previous color #
On Android, turn off “Keep color” in the alert. With that option on, the bulbs keep the alert color.
The bulbs turn on by themselves (iPhone) #
In Reminders, tap “Click here to solve it.”. Visualfy removes from the Hue Bridge the alerts that are no longer used.
The bulbs stay on after a power cut #
You set this in the Philips Hue app, not in Visualfy:
- Go to “Settings”.
- Tap “Power-on behavior”.
- Choose “Power loss recovery”.
If they still stay on, contact Philips Hue customer service.
Visualfy says the Hue Bridge is not updated #
Update the Hue Bridge in the Philips Hue app and link it again in Visualfy.
