Create reminders for your appointments, tasks or anything you don’t want to forget. On iPhone, Visualfy works together with the iPhone’s own Reminders app: the reminders you create in Visualfy are saved there, and the iPhone alerts you at the time you choose.
Visualfy can also make your Philips Hue bulbs flash at that time, so the alert is visual at home too.
Required permissions #
To use reminders on iPhone you need to:
- Give Visualfy the reminders permission.
- Have notifications for the Reminders app turned on, because that app is the one that alerts you.
- If you use Philips Hue bulbs, allow access to the local network, so Visualfy can find your Hue Bridge.
If Visualfy does not have the reminders permission yet, you will see the “We need reminders permission” screen. Tap “Grant permission”:
- If it is the first time, the iPhone asks you whether to allow it.
- If you said no before, the iPhone Settings open. Turn on reminders for Visualfy there and go back to the app.
Accessing Reminders #
- Open the Visualfy app with your account.
- In the bottom bar, tap the first tab, “Mobile”.
- Tap the “Visualfy Reminders” card.
You will see your list of reminders, with two tabs: “Upcoming” and “Completed”. If you don’t have any yet, you will see the message “You haven’t set up any reminders yet. Start now!”.
Creating a reminder #
- Tap the round “+” button at the bottom right.
- The “Edit reminder” screen opens. Choose the date, the time and the other options.
- Tap “Save” at the top right.
If you change your mind, tap “Cancel” and nothing is saved.
Reminder settings #
Date and time #
Choose the day and time when you want the reminder to alert you.
Name #
In “General configuration”, type a name for the reminder in “Label”. A new reminder starts with the name “Reminder label”. When you tap it, it is cleared, and the “Save” button stays off until you type a name.
Repeat #
Tap “Repeat” and choose whether the reminder repeats:
- Never: it alerts you only once.
- Every day or Every week.
- Every month: under “Every”, choose how many months apart (1 to 12).
- Every year: under “Every”, choose how many years apart (1 to 10).
With “Every week”, “Custom” appears, where you mark the days of the week when you want the alert.
If the reminder repeats, under “Finish” you decide when it ends:
- Never ends.
- On a specific date: it repeats until the day you choose.
- After a number of times: it repeats 1 to 12 times and then stops.
Philips Hue bulbs #
In “Notifications to other devices”, turn on “Philips Hue” so your bulbs flash at the time of the reminder. Then, in “Bulbs”, choose which bulbs to use.
If you don’t have a Hue Bridge linked yet, Visualfy takes you to the screen to link it. You can also link it with the round Hue icon button, above the “+” button.
NOTE: on iPhone, the alert sound and vibration are those of the iPhone’s Reminders app. Visualfy does not add vibration, flash or a full-screen alert to reminders.
When the alert arrives #
At the chosen time, the iPhone shows the Reminders app notification, like any other reminder. If you turned on Philips Hue, the selected bulbs flash for a few seconds.
If you also want the iPhone’s flash to light up with alerts, turn on the iPhone option “LED Flash for Alerts” in Settings → Accessibility → Audio & Visual. This option applies to all iPhone notifications.
Editing and deleting reminders #
- To edit: tap the reminder in the list, change what you want and tap “Save”.
- To delete: swipe the reminder to the left and tap “Delete”. Confirm with “Delete reminder”. It is also deleted from the iPhone’s Reminders app.
Upcoming and completed #
Each reminder in the list has a switch. If you turn it off, the reminder is completed and moves to the “Completed” tab, in grey. If you turn it on again, it goes back to “Upcoming”.
The iPhone Reminders app #
- Visualfy saves your reminders in the main list of the iPhone’s Reminders app.
- Reminders you create in that list on your iPhone also appear in Visualfy. Reminders in other lists do not.
- If you delete or change a reminder in the iPhone’s Reminders app, you will see the change in Visualfy too.
NOTE: if a reminder created on the iPhone has a special repeat (for example, a specific day of each month), do not open “Repeat” in Visualfy: the repeat changes to “Never” and, if you save, the original repeat is lost.
Troubleshooting #
My Philips Hue bulbs turn on by themselves #
If your Hue Bridge has stored alerts that no longer belong to any reminder, a bar with the text “Click here to solve it.” appears in the list. Tap it and Visualfy removes those alerts.
